Addendum 1 – Jan. 24, 2025
Q: Do the trusses and 2×8 wall studs all need to be pressure treated due to the salt exposure?
A: Treated 2×8 wall studs would be preferred in the salt storage area but are not listed in the plans. Only the 2×8 sill plate is listed as treated in the plans.
Q: Sheet A9, I believe they made a typo on the truss/ plate tie iso. They called for a galvanized 6×6 post base. Do they mean they want the truss plates / gussets galvanized?
A: For truss plates on engineered trusses galvanized or stainless steel would be sufficient.
Addendum 2 – Jan. 28, 2025
Q: Is there an elevation for the finish floor height of the new building in relation to the existing site? Is there a benchmark we are using at the existing site?
A: There is a site plan with elevations listed that will be sent to all contractors who have requested blueprints.
Q: The concrete stoop shown on detail sheet A-15 is shown on the floor plan in front of only 1 of the exterior doors. Is that correct? Is there a size and thickness?
A: 5-foot x 5-foot x 6 inches thick for all man doors.
Q: Concrete aprons are shown on multiple detail sheets but are not shown on the floor plan in front of any of the overhead doors. Do you have locations, sizes, thickness, and reinforcement?
A: We will address this as an add-on or the City will contract this work based on budget and cost.
Q: The 14′ x 14′ overhead door is shown on sheet A8 with 3-16″ LVL for headers, then shown on sheet A14 with 3-20″ LVL headers. Can you clarify?
A: Section detail A14 is the correct spec.
Q: At the soffit detail, it is showing a 1/2″ exterior grade OSB clad with metal. Do you have a spec or manufacturer for this product?
A: Bidder preference
Q: Roof details show 1/2″ roof sheeting under the metal roof panels, normally 5/8″ is the minimum. Do we quote the 1/2″?
A: if the minimum standard supersedes the print, use the minimum standard.
Q: Concerning the metal roofing panels, are they to be a 36″ wide exposed fastener panel, or a standing seam type with concealed fasteners.
A: Bidder preference
Addendum 3 – Feb. 11, 2025
Q: Will the building that is there be demolished or will it need to be torn down?
A: The building pictured in the site plan was a total loss in a tornado. Demolition has been completed but there may still be some grading and site prep remaining.
Addendum 4 – Feb. 12, 2025
Q: One plan shows LVL purlins on the interior, why? We are planning on standard 2×4 purlins throughout job as noted on the elevation page. Please clarify.
A: Carriers to remain LVL, girts can be standard as listed in building section F.
Addendum 5 – Feb. 18, 2025
Q: Would you accept 5/8” osb and ½” osb on the roof and sidewalls respectively. (steel companies like the roof to have 5/8” at least so there is more for the screw to bite into. This is not to be confused with the sidewall due to the steel length on the roof usually is much longer than side steel)
A: ½ inch is listed in the print if you supersede the spec that is bidders’ choice. If there is a manufacturer recommendation or minimum standard that supersedes the print, use recommended material.
Q: I see on the second addendum that the thickness was addressed but I wanted to make sure the exposure 1 of the osb was acceptable.
A: Exposure 1 or exterior rated osb/plywood is sufficient.
Q: ½ metal clad exterior grade osb previously covered in above explanation. There are 2 options. 1. We have been using aluminum soffit and fascia due to its resistance to salt dust. It keeps maintenance down due to its not needing any. 3 solid and 1 vented allows air to vent through the eves. 2. Use the same steel as used on the sidewalls. We have used the 29 ga on multiple salt barns including Genessee Co, Washtenaw Co, Saginaw Co
A: Bidder preference.
Q: Sno bars or individual sno blox over the overhead doors on steel roofs can stop snow from sliding off the roof in a mass avalanche which could cause injury/damage if someone is walking/driving out the overhead door. We did snow bars on the projects for Washtenaw County Road Commission on Zeeb Road and for Huron County Road Commission in Bad Axe MI. There are a couple of options S-5 system which is very expensive, or sno-bars made from 29 ga steel from metal sales. We did 2 re-roofs for salt barns up North, Boyne City and Ironton and we used the cheaper sno bars from metal sales and they have much more snow than we do down here and they have never said they had any problems.
A: Snow bars are not required, if this becomes a problem we can look at installing them at a later date.
Q: Would you consider a 10” poured wall instead of block. I have done a lot of the MDOT salt barns and a concrete wall would definitely be more durable. I would propose a 3’ footing with an L bar every 12” alternating 1 out then 1 in and pouring a 13’ high wall from the footing up.
A: If it meets the spec on the prints, it would bidders’ choice, you may be asked to prove structural and side load rating.
Q: Is there a time we can visit the site?
A: The site is open but a heads up would be nice.
Q: Since there are no spec’s listed – what quality doors are you looking for?
A: Standard commercial grade solid panel doors.
Q: Insulated? non insulated? – if non insulated certain gauge steel?
A: Non-insulated panel style overhead doors.
Q: Prints do not show windows so I’m assuming solid?
A: Solid with no window.
Q: Are they just white in color?
A: White in color would match other existing buildings.
Q: Any provisions needed due to it being in a Salt barn?
A: Bidders choice, aluminum would work if available but standard is fine
Q: Any special safety features needed for the openers? (I’m assuming single phase 115 volt power?)
A: Chains for manual lifting during a power outage for the three bay doors, 115 volt power
