Wednesday, July 21, on the Lawn of the Macqueen House
Nearly 40 people attended the fun and educational event,"Milk to Ice Cream," hosted by the
Community District Library, Wednesday, July 21.
The event was made possible by the Shiawassee 4-H and Riverview Farm in Bancroft, who provided a
one-week old Holstein calf for everyone to pet and talk to.
The program began with Shiawassee 4-H Program Coordinator Nikki Hersch reading a book titled,
"Tales of the Dairy Godmother - Chuck's Ice Cream Wish" by Viola Butler
which detailed the steps of making ice cream - from getting the milk from the cow to the
edible stage that everyone enjoys."
After the story was read, guests were introduced to the calf, who seemed to like the people
as much as they liked her. Then the fun task came of making ice cream from scratch.
The completed product was topped with traditional toppings.
Thanks were extended to the Riverview Dairy Farm in Bancroft for providing the calf.
